Fede’s mindful approach to conversation and people is the same kind of consciousness that VMBC is trying to embed in its culture: an appreciation and consideration for individual team members, clients, and their work.
Federico Celina’s ensemble is in complete contrast to his sunny personality: every day, Fede, as he’s affectionately called by his VMBC family, dons black—from head to toe. He attributes his wardrobe choice to Einstein.
True story: a reporter who had just interviewed Einstein asked him for his phone number. Einstein agreed—then proceeded to flip through the phone directory to find it.
“Einstein didn’t occupy his mind with information he could look up,” says Fede. “That’s the same with me and clothes. If I don’t need to think about what I’m going to wear every day, I can occupy my time and energy with more important things.”
The “important things” Fede occupies his mind with are VMBC initiatives. As a leader in the 4CS team—an acronym that stands for Communication, Coordination, Care and Culture—Fede spends the majority of his time helping VMBC members embody the company’s culture. At a time when VMBC is more intentionally adopting a stronger conscious capitalism mindset, Fede’s role couldn’t be more important.
“I am the go-to person,” Fede says. When further prompted, he explains that he is “a sponge,” constantly absorbing information and continuing to drip that knowledge onto the next person, trickling through the organization. Fede’s love for learning isn’t confined to information; his curiosity extends to people and cultures as well.
“I love making people laugh,” Fede says. “When people are happy and don’t take things so seriously, they’re more inclined to engage in conversation.” And Fede is all about conversation. As a 4CS leader, he caters explanations of what, how, why based on whom he’s talking to. “Not everyone learns the same way,” he says, “and miscommunication often happens between people when the person explaining does so in a way that he, himself, would understand.” Fede’s mindful approach to conversation and people is the same kind of consciousness that VMBC is trying to embed in its culture: an appreciation and consideration for individual team members, clients, and their work.
Fede’s enthusiasm for traveling stems from his interest in different cultures. “I find different cultures fascinating. And I always try to learn the language of wherever I’m going.” Again, a considerate, conscious approach. But there is one considerable restriction to his traveling—he only visits places where it’s winter. “I don’t do sun,” he says. “I’m allergic.”
In addition to his role as a 4CS team leader, Fede is a compliance associate, a more financial and technical role that supports his background in economics. “I like learning about the social impacts of economic decisions,” he says. Fede’s responsibilities as a compliance associate include researching regulations to ensure that VMBC’s work with its clients is in line with the rules and regulations of that client’s industry. “We work with businesses that need specific regulations and we need to comply with those regulations,” he explains. “Regulations make sure we only do the good things for our clients.”
After seven years at VMBC’s Argentina office, Fede still loves what he does and recognizes that VMBC is a special place. “We are a small company doing big things.”
